Custom Scenario and Game Mod Designing Contest

We are very proud to announce the return of Voobly's triennual Scenario Design and Modding Contest! If you are interested in taking part then please see below for further information on where you have to submit your entry and how the judging works. The top three in each category will receive prizes!

Three Competitions:

Competitive Scenario

Create an entertaining or intensive player versus player scenario. It can be 1v1, a team game, or Free For All (FFA). It is up to you how to balance the scenario. As a player versus player map, Voobly rates the widely played and favourite ones, so try to make sure your scenario is appealing to players with a broad skillset and fairly easy to learn, yet harder to master. Of course, not everyone can be charmed with a competitive and grindy scenario, so try not to forget the aspect of fun as well! Do your best to make it lag-free! If there is lag while playing, it should be coming from the players, not from the map itself.

Cooperative scenario

Design an interesting and challenging scenario in which a team of people fight against an AI, whom they have to defeat or withstand in order to win the game. It can be either story-driven and full of quests or a defend the spot situation where the players struggle to survive. It is up to you how the players fight against the AI as there are a lot of options to choose from. If you are creative enough, maybe you will come up with an entirely new game genre of players vs AI.

Game/Data Modification

Create an entertaining or helpful game/data modification that could be used to play random maps and custom scenarios, both rated and non-rated. The aim of this modification is to enhance a player's gameplay experience by either providing them more fun than usual or making their average match more enjoyable by manipulating certain factors from the game. Full conversion and expansion alike modifications are very welcome as well.

The winner will have his/her scenario featured in the Voobly CS League.
First Place One year of Platinum membership.
Second Place One year Gold membership.
Third Place One year Silver membership.

*A minimum of Twelve participants are required for the prizes above to stand. If less enter then premium membership durations will be reduced to half of their value.

Cooperative Scenario

First Place One year of Gold membership.
Second Place One year Silver membership.
Third Place Six months Silver membership.

*A minimum of Nine participants are required for the prizes above to stand. If less enter then premium membership durations will be reduced to half of their value.

Game/Data Modification

First Place One year of Gold membership.
Second Place One year Silver membership.
Third Place Six months Silver membership.

Competitive/Cooperative Scenario Judging Criteria

A maximum of 100 points from the criteria below.
25 Points - Creativity: How unique is the scenario compared to other existing scenarios and how do the gameplay and mechanics differ.
25 Points - Playability: How complex or straightforward is the scenario, how much effort has to be put in to win a game or complete a game.
20 Points - Replayability: The measure of fun; how likely the players are to replay the scenario.
15 Points - Balance: How evenly matched are the starting conditions for each player/team.
15 Points - Design: The measure of how effective the layout is or how it beautifys the map.

Game/Data Modification Judging Criteria

A maximum of 100 points from criterias below.
35 Points - Creativity: How unique the modification is compared to other existing modifications and the interesting mechanics and gameplay changes have been done to the original game.
35 Points - Playability: How complex or straightforward is the modification and is it usable for every random map and/or custom scenario.
30 Points - Reusability: The measure of fun it adds when playing a game and how useful it is to random maps and/or custom scenarios.

Rules

You are allowed to submit only ONE entry per category.
The scenario or modification must be your own creation; edits of an existing scenario or a modification will be disqualified.
You must be the main creator of a map, not the co-creator, otherwise judges will reserve the right to forfeit the entrant. If you feel that you fairly co-created the entry with someone else, we will review it and decide whether or not to split the prize if it places 1st-3rd.
Before submitting your entry please test it thoroughly and make sure there are no errors and bugs that give unfair advantages to any of the players or dampen the playability; these flaws will be heavily penalized.
To win a League for your Competitive Scenario it must not have any booters. You are still allowed to enter with a scenario that has them, but it will not be featured in a league if it wins.
Your Game/Data Modification must be uploaded to Voobly Modification Center and it must have passed the "waiting for approval" stage.
