I get out of sync all the time? Could this be because I don't have the game itself installed on my PC? Then I need to buy a new one because I lost the old one I think.

Correct, you will need an actual copy/version of the game.

You need to buy the CD online, my guess you're talking about Age of Mythology according to your profile.

The Out of Sync (OOS) Error is usually caused by corrupted files meaning pirated game such as downloading it from online or even transferring it from one pc to another.
