I let it 'download' for 2 hours, nothing. There just wasn't anything to be downloaded, but I just wanted to be sure. So I clicked the link for unsuccessful patching: [You must login to view link]

The homelinux link is no longer working as [You must login to view link] the recent place for the compatible patch.
I recommend try follow this guide:
https://support.voobly.com/display/vkb/KB1054+Clean+installation+of+Aoe2HD+with+compatibility+patch
(make sure you do correctly the step14, or you will end with a "new folder" and have to redo that part)

i suggest you start from scratch and then see. uninstall voobly and the game from :programs[86]. del all the folders. reboot. then follow this guide: https://support.voobly.com/display/vkb/KB1054+Clean+installation+of+Aoe2HD+with+compatibility+patch
(make sure you do correctly the step14, or you will end with a "new folder" and have to redo that part)
