I dont think theyve really improved no tbh, theres only so much you can do in a map that is simple and most of it comes down to getting themselves sharp again. I dare say they played more games years ago so they where sharper. You can get weaker in maps when you dont play them as often
I played Scar in 2009 preparing for that AB tourney you hosted. Scar, according to many a top Aok player. It was AB, an Aok map, and we played it in Aok, so with a patrol i'm completely unfamiliar with. If i remember correctly i lost 0 games, and i played the map like 10 times.
When xl came back, the supposedly elite of the zone, none of them could win me in any map.
Why do i think this is? Cause people who were top then never stopped playing, kept improving their speed and micro. New players have to match these old players if they wanna compete with them in speed micro and map knowledge, and so the level keeps rising.
In maps that require a lot of map knowledge the level may have been higher at aok, but we're talking about AB which requires 0 map knowledge. And even in dome, a map requiring a lot of map knowledge and experience, new players can beat old players after only playing it a fair amount of times, cause their micro is so much better.
And i said it's always only people who stopped playing competitively who claim the level was higher 10 years ago, the only ones on this topic saying so are marvel and Army, i haven't seen both play any 1 v 1 in the last 5 years, so where do you base your assumptions on?

Scar isnt really an ab player tbh, and was never really considered a top in it even though he is a top player and one of the best in a number of other maps. You also lost to me when practising for that tourney in aoc has did just about everyone else before and after it when i played it often. Ab is more about getting up to speed and yes your right it doesnt really require map knowledge. More just a case of practising to get your micro sharp. Notice how all the best khans players years ago are still the best now. Its not like theyve magically got better when they barely play it now its just theres only so good you can get in a simple map and with a little practice they generally beat the current crop. Has ben said its more just a case in lots of maps of crash coursing it and getting sharp to be one of the best
Ive played with some of the ones ive named and have won some even though ive lost more and i barely play it now and tbh i wouldnt consider myself a top ab player now nor was i back then. The only time i managed to get on an ab list years ago (barely top 10) was when loads stopped playing and anytime the better players got back i would lose my spot to them once they got a little practice. I base alot of my opinion on this matter based on the games ive played against players now and players then, that and the simplicity of the map and how often the map actually gets played. Maybe im wrong but its my opinion and theres no way to prove im right or wrong
Ab doesnt require map knowledge I totally agree (one of the biggest reasons for my opinion) it was more just a case of loads playing it then and playing it often so they where sharp in it and the competition was alot higher as a result. Sure there was more noobs back then as a whole and yes there was a bigger skill gap between experts and noobs but there was also more experts and more players playing it. I do think a number of maps have progressed but not all as you can only get so good especially in a simple map. I certainly think has a whole players are better now than they where on zone and i agree with alot you say.
But who cares its not relevant and we dont have a time machine so i guess we can agree to disagree as a matter of opinion. This is aoc top archer blood list nowdays and only really concerns the present players

IDK about now, but scar was never considered top AB on zone. If he is considered top AB now, it kinda of proves my point.
and @ armys post, i agree players are probably better in aoc now than they were on zone (i didnt play aoc on zone so cant be 100% sure but aoc has stayed active), but the level now in aok is not even 1/10th of what it was on zone.

what do you expect, when noone is playing aok xD any halfway decent aoc player could get top at aok easily

That's definately true nowdays, I don't expect anything else, i thought it was fairly obvious. I'm not the one arguing against this point. The level in aok for the past few years is abysmal.

For the general player in the AoK lobby yes, but Scar and Gnome (Still smurfing as Axon) are playing at a very high level.
this whole thing where people pretend the skill level in any map was higher 10 years ago (the only people who ever say this are people who stopped playing 10 years ago) than it is now is pretty dumb.
I had enough chats with people who played back then as well as play now to realise this.
all you have to do is patrol+runners and use brain a little
