Voobly’s Community Clash: Black Forest Edition

badge_BF.png

Since the OLYMPUS team is currently organizing a team tournament around open maps, I thought wise not to overlap with the same format. Therefore, the next iteration fo the Community Clash tournament will be a 2v2 Black Forest one. As with previous instalments, the tournament will use the new 1.6 Community Patch.

This tournament will have two divisions of teams, a casual division for novice players and an advanced division for experienced players. Read the Divisions section bellow. Prices will consist of premium memberships and badges on your profile.
Contents:

Tournament format and Dates

Tournament format

The tournament will be played as a single elimination league with best of 3 matches. Semifinals and final will be best of 5.

Match organization

Teams will agree upon a time to play on their own and then submit the recorded games to the tournament organizers. Teams should indicate the score and winner of the matches to speed the process of setting the next round. In case of discrepancy between players, the recordings will be used.

Recordins will be sent either by sending the link to the games or directly sending the recording's file to the tournament organizer (Pancrol).

Matches should be played before their assigned deadlines, see bellow. In case the matches have not been submitted, one of the teams will receive an admin win randomly.

Absence loose

Should a team be unable to contact their opponents and set up a date for the match, the team that made the effort to contact the other will receive an admin win. In order to receive an admin win of this kind, the team has to submit proof of trying to contact the opponent via message screenshots or any other medium.

Dates

All rounds of the tournament will have a week to be played. The deadline of each round will be the corresponding Sunday at 23:23:59 UTC-12 (see the current UTC time [You must login to view link]).
  • Registration: Until Sunday, March 20th.
  • Round of 16: Until Sunday, March 27th.
  • Quarter-finals: Until Sunday, April 3th.
  • Semifinal: Until Sunday, April 10th.
  • Final: Until Sunday, April 24h (since Easter is the week of April 11th).

No more than 16 teams will be allowed to participate in each division. There will be a total of 32 teams.

Should a team not be able to play during the whole week, they should communicate the issue to the tournament organizers as soon as possible.

Divisions and participants

Divisions

Teams will be distributed in two divisions, Casual and Advanced based on the ELO of the members.

The separation between both divisions will be done once the registration finishes. Ideally, the 16 best teams based on average ELO of the members will play in the advanced division and the 16 worst teams will play in the casual one.

Unassigned group

In case the distinction between casual and advanced comes down to a handful of points, the teams in the middle of the table will be initially put into an unassigned group. Teams in the unassigned group will be used to fill the two divisions once the registration closes. We will use the following rules:
  • A team in the unassigned group can voluntarily request to play in the advanced division upon registration.
  • A team in the unassigned group can not request to play in the casual division.
  • A team in the unassigned group that does not request to play in the advanced division will be drafted to any of the divisions randomly.
This will ensure that a team is not drafted outside the advanced division just because of a couple of bad games right before the tournament.

Participants

Every team willing to participate should write in the comments bellow, leaving a link to the accounts they’ll be using. They must play all games of the tournament using that account. Players are advised to use their primary accounts or inform of their existence in order to avoid secondary account suspicions.

Please, be aware that Voobly has mechanisms to detect secondary accounts. If a team registers a secondary account with less ELO in order to avoid the advanced division, the team will be discarded.

Similarly, if a casual division team lends the accounts to higher level players in order to advance easily, the team will be disqualified.

Subsituing players

Teams can have a third substitution member. Teams with three members can share members.

Players without a team

If a player wishes to participate but does not know anyone with whom to form a team, they can ask to enter the single player pool. This single player pool will be a list of players without a team so that players can look for a team member there.

The tournament organizers will make no effort to pair players together. It is the players responsibility to find a partner. Being listed in the single player pool does not mean being a participant in the tournament.

Seeding

Teams will be randomly placed in the brackets, making an effor not to pair high ELO teams in the initial rounds. Should a player wish to check that this process was indeed random, the script that generates the brackets will be published.

Game rules

Game restarts

Players will not have restarts available.

Admin restarts

Players can request a restart in situations where their maps are bugged or otherwise failed to generate in the intended way. After a restart, civilisations and colours must remain the same.
  • The moment one of the players detects a potential bugged generation of the map, they will pause the game to discuss it.
  • If all players are able to see the bugged generation in game, they will discuss there whether it qualifies for an admin restart.
  • In case one of the players can not see it (as it may be in the fog of war), the other players will take a screenshot to show the opponents and players will save and exit the game. Players will discuss whether it qualifies for an admin restart in the game room.
  • In case that players don’t agree upon whether or not the generation is indeed bugged, they will resume that game, finish it, play all the remaining games, whether one team wins 2-0 or not, and then replay the game that had the bugged generation with the same civilizations as before. They will inform of this situation when submitting the recordings. Tournament organizers will decide on the bugged generation and either use the original game or the backup one for the score.
Players can ask for this type of restart while during the game or when the game finishes and the map is made visible. The messages regarding this must be visible in the recording. After players leave the game, it will be understood that they ignored the bugged generation.

Situations that qualify as a bugged generation:
  • More than 50% of the sides on a player-specific gold deposit, stone deposit or forage bush cluster
    are inaccessible.
  • Any herdable or wild animal that belongs to a player is trapped or in any way inaccessible.
  • Any player-controlled units are trapped or in any way inaccessible.
  • Any player-specific object, such as resource deposit buildings, wild animals or villagers, fail to generate in the intended amount.

Laming

Players are permitted to do anything that the game allows, including, but not limited to, walling in resources, blocking or killing villagers and killing enemy herdable or wild animals.

This does not include deletion of straggler trees around the Town Center.

Pausing

Players will only pause a game if they, or their opponents, are experiencing severe issues that are directly affecting the game and their ability to play.

The player pausing the game will also be the one to unpause the game. Before unpausing, the player pausing the game will ensure that the opponent is ready to continue.

Game settings

Game room settings

All parties are equally responsible for making sure the lobby settings are correct before launching a game.
  • Games will be played in the Tournament 1 lobby, using the VCOM Ladder.
  • Games will use the v1.6 Game Data mod and the v1.6 RC patch.
  • Spectators must be allowed.
  • Hidden civilisations must be enabled.
  • A spectator delay of exactly 2 minutes is required.

Game settings
  • Game: Random Map.
  • Map Style: Standard (Advanced division) or Custom (Casual division).
  • Location: Black Forest (Advanced division) or DE+AV_Black_Forest (Casual division).
  • Map Size: Medium (4 player).
  • Difficulty: Standard.
  • Resources: Standard.
  • Population: 200.
  • Game Speed: Normal.
  • Reveal Map: Explored.
  • Starting Age: Standard.
  • Victory: Conquest.
  • Team Together: Check
  • All Techs: Uncheck.
  • Allow Cheats: Uncheck.
  • Lock Teams: Check.
  • Lock Speed: Check.
  • Record Game: Check.

Maps

Games in the Casual divison will be played using the Allied vision version of the Black Forest map that comes with the v1.6 Game Data mod.

Games in the Advanced division will be played using the standard Black Forest map.

Civilizations

Games may be played with any civilization. Teams can not repeat the same civilizations in the same match.

Prizes

The prize distribution in the casual division will consist of badges for each member for the four best teams.

The prize distribution in the advanced division will be the following:
  • First place: 2 months of premium membership and badge on the profile for each member.
  • Second place: 1 month of premium membership and badge on the profile for each member.
  • Third-Fourth place: badge on the profile for each member.
None of this prizes will be awarded should teams advance due to a random win.

Random events

Should we need to randomly choose between two teams for an admin win, the choice will be carried in the following way, to ensure fairness:
  1. The account numbers from each team member will be used, these numbers are shown in the URL of the profile page.
  2. The team member with the lowest account number of each team will be chosen as a representative.
  3. The numbers of all team members will be added and, from the result, the first 5 numbers starting from the right will be copied.
  4. That number will be used as a seed to generate the map “coin_flip” attached bellow. This script generates a map made of grass or dirt with 50% chance each.
  5. If the generation produces a grass map, the team representative with the lowest account number will receive the admin win for their team. If the generation produces a dirt map, the team representative with the highest account number will receive an admin win for their team.
This process can be replicated by anyone and will always yield the same result.

Tournament administrators

These administrators will come into play should we have a bugged generation that requires ruling.

If you play in the NPL, you can join the Casual division. I'll put your name in the unassigned players pool. Check it from time to time in order to find a partner or invite people you've played with.
