Because some of us feel that having it as a clan tournie makes it more competitive. I can only speak for myself, but i'm far more likely to be motivated to actually play aoc and practice for a clan war over just a team based tournament.
Clan-less players can make teams just for TIW, as far as I can tell nobody who wants it to be a clan tournie has an issue with this and actually encourages it.
Clan war: recruiting random people just to win a “clan” tiw playing under a clan name they don’t even give a **** about.
Creating random clans just to compete in a “clan” war playing for a clan that will die just after tiw.
Team war: same thing, just no need to recruit random people and no need form useless clans just for a “clan tiw

Well from what we've seen clans interested:
Eot
xCs
RB
iC
Dy
Possibly dysr
Possibly some sort of and hoc team/clan
So actually kinda looks like it's all clans anyway

Not really, xcs and eot don't really need to recruit anyone, smaller clans can if it increases competition, who cares?
I mean, forming a 'clan' and 'team' is near enough the same thing, the difference being a clan tournie holds more prestige, thus more motivation for high level games, so I don't really see any valid point against a clan tournie at this stage, specially seeing as most of the 'teams' would basically be clans anyway, and especially if you want to see the highest level games. The only reason I can see for someone not wanting it to be a 'clan' thing is because they don't want to risk their clans reputation or whatever (maybe i'm wrong, just my opinion), but i think this is exactly what drives competition. Making it a clan war means there's something at stake, nobody cares if they win/lose with a 'team'
But what's so different about making a 'random clan that dies after TIW', and making a 'team' just for tiw? I don't see any negatives, other than making the tournament more competitive by making it a clan thing, and if we're lucky some clans formed for TIW might actually stick around. Either way, i don't see what benefit making a 'team' has over making a 'random clan that will die after tiw'... what benefit does making a team offer over making a clan for TIW, even if it dies right after?
You are of course welcome to disagree, but this is my opinion, i personally just see no benefits to making it a team thing over a clan thing, and in fact see a lot more value in making it a clan tournie for the reasons i've outlined.
Eot xCs Dy IC and RB don't need to recruit anybody, the only clan is the new / possible merger of people who want in but are clan less or in dead clans. Imo xCs just saying all of this as to not lose face if they lose, not trying to bait honestly that's the only logical reason.

RMers have moved to Steam already. You guys are still stuck here.
I wonder how proud chris must be knowing that only the scum of CS is left on voobly.
