I've been trying to play this game in widescreen but I couldn't.
Actually, I read somewhere that if you put ~ x= 1920 and y= 1080 ~ in your shortcut it would work.
Really does, but not in voobly.

Then ppl say 'go to options and change, it's simple' but I don't have the 1920x1080 resolution in options,
only 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1080.

Is it possible to play in widescreen?

this ive seen streamers play in 1080, and i know you can play it in 1080 by modifying a config file, but the modification doesnt hold when launched through voobly - any idea how to fix this? this is all thats stopping me from playing aot on voobly

a solution that might work for you, at least it did for me:
1. go to aom_foder/startup make here a user.cfg file, or edit existing one, add these lines: you can use whatever resolution you need.
2. go to aom_folder/gfxconfig2, make backup of that folder, then delete i845.gfx file, and rename "geforce3.gfx" to "i845.gfx" (in case it breakes game, just restore files from backup)

Important to also follow step 2 here. Another option is instead of delete in step 2, it's safer to simply copy all the text in geforce3.gfx and paste it (replacing the contents of) i845.gfx.
