On Steam they would be forced to play CBA with the new civs, here at Voobly they still play 1.5 (without HD civs) and refuse to play 1.5 (HD) or 1.6 (DE). But hey, we learnt in this thread: Voobly sucks, everyone will move to Steam.
The only problem with this theory: Microsoft stops supportings their products after seven years, which is the life cycle for all their products of the past 30+ years. AoE II DE is soon five years old.
when i get a son ill teach him how to play this game untill then i hope voobly still doing well
Sorry, that was all my bad...
AoC is destined to die eventually and along with it Voobly (probably).
The reason most people play AoC instead of modern games is the nostalgia / comfort of it.
It's the same reason you'll never convince a cba player to try a different map.
Voobly/regular AoC will probably outlast the steam community of DE though, that was simply a money grab by Microsoft. Every time I've tried to play DE there's two new civs (for $9.99) with random bonuses and ****ed unique units.
some examples:
Warrior Priest: Can heal and carry Relics in addition to combat
Monaspa: Attack is increased in the vicinity of other Monaspas and Knights
Shrivamsha Rider: Dodges projectiles
Hussite Wagon: Tanky, protect units behind by absorbing 50% damage
Keshik: Cheap cost, generates gold during combat
(this doesn't even touch the regular civilization bonuses)
Eventually they will run out of unique bonuses, or civilization names. Microsoft will lose interest and the DE players will too. This game has only survived this long because it's a good game with a low cost to play.
I'm afraid AoC will be long gone before you learn how to talk to a woman.
@chris

the verdict of this topic is stick to playing anything but aoe and enjoy watching it all fall apart from the side slowly while still using aoe taunts accidently to non aoe gamers
on a good note voobly emotes are still cute

There's no reason to play on voobly instead of DE, the game experience is much better. There won't be new voobly players anytime as long as microsoft supports the steam one.
How you doing? PM me if you want some friendly games.
Anddd that’s all folks! GGs
Except the superior lobby, user interaction, spectator function
CS specific there's loads: Rating system, anti-cheat/rated CS maps, unit pathing, tournaments, clans etc.

As much as I tried to get my AOE fix in other platforms, I’ve realized that there’s no place like voobly for AOE.
