Having issues with your game being slow to start on Voobly? Problems getting into spectating in AoC/WK or experiencing lategame lag in AoT when using mods like Balance Patch? Try this out, it might just improve your situation and help you have more fun with Age of Mythology and Age of Empires.

Age of Mythology Guide:

If you're having trouble with your game taking long to load and having some lategame lag on Voobly when using mods like the Balance Patch, adding Windows Defender or your antivirus exceptions should improve your experience considerably and make it a whole lot smoother.

Step-by-step adding an exception in Windows Defender on Windows 10:

1) Navigate to your tray down right and left-click on the shield icon representing Windows Defender.
2) Click through into Virus & threat protection and follow into Virus & threat protection settings
3) Scroll down to Exclusions and click Add or remove exclusions
4) Here click Add an exclusion and add a process - here you input the launch file of your game - aomxnocd.exe. For Vanilla Age of Mythology it's aomnocd.exe.
5) You can, and it's recommended, also add process voobly.exe, which will further speed up your launch from Voobly game room into the game itself.

If you have your own proprietary antivirus software, follow similar procedures to add exceptions for Age of Mythology and Voobly. If you're having trouble figuring it out or your antivirus is for some reason not cooperating, temporarily disabling it when you're playing is also going to work, but it is not recommended as exceptions are a better solution and you won't have to worry about forgetting to put the antivirus back up.

Age of Empires II Guide:

If you're having trouble with your game taking long to load into the in-game lobby or spectating even sometimes failing, adding Windows Defender or your antivirus exceptions should improve your experience and shave off some seconds from your launch time, making playing and spectating a bit more springly.

Results in both cases depend on your computer configuration, so it may vary, but generally slower computers should benefit more.

We hope this helps and gl&hf in your games! :)
