Fraps Tutorial

Fraps is a program used frequently on Voobly to take in-game screenshots. This is important for many players because it is necessary to include screenshots with most complaint reports.

Downloading and Installation

Download Fraps (version 3.5.9) from here.
When the file download window pops up, click on 'save'.
When the file download window pops up and says "Download complete" click on 'Run'.
When the program opens, click 'I Agree'.
Make sure the destination folder says C:/Fraps, then click 'Next'.
Click 'Install'.
When installation is finished, click 'Close'.

Opening the program

There should be a Fraps icon on your desktop that looks like this:
Double click on this icon
Fraps should now be open and look like this:
Check the box that says 'Start Fraps minimized', and uncheck the box that says 'Fraps window always on top'. Otherwise, when you open Fraps this window will be in the way of your screenshot (unless you want to minimize it to your taskbar each time you open it).
Click on the 'Screenshots' tab at the top right corner.

Selecting a hotkey

Now you need to select a hotkey in which the button you press on your keyboard will take the screenshot.
Voobly recommends the 'Print Screen' key on your keyboard because this key is hardly used during games.
Click your mouse in the box where it says 'Screen Capture Hotkey' and on your keyboard press your 'Print Screen' key.
This is what it should look like:
Your hotkey is now ready to take screenshots.

Taking a screenshot

Now let's put the program to use.
Open Fraps by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
To take a screenshot press the 'Print Screen' key (or the hotkey you used) on your keyboard while viewing what you want to take an ss of.
For example, if you want to take a screenshot of the game you're in, then go into the game, and press the 'Print Screen' key.
If you need to take a screenshot of outside the game you may also use this method:

Put your computer view on what you want to take a screenshot of
Press your Print Screen key on your keyboard
Open Paint program on your computer
Press Control V
Save it.

Viewing a screenshot

To view the screenshot you've just taken, right click on the icon on your taskbar and click 'View Screenshots'.
You should also name your screenshots to make them easier to find. To do this:
Right click on your screenshot and click 'rename'. (File location of your screenshots folder: C:Fraps>Screenshots.
If you don't see the screenshot in this folder, it will be in C:Program Files>Microsoft Games>Age of Empires II>Screenshots

Uploading a screenshot

Now let's upload your screenshot to the web so you will be able to use it in a complaint.

Go to Tinyuploads.
Click 'Browse'. This brings up the 'Select File' window.
Left click on the screenshot you want, and then click 'Open' at the bottom of the window. This is what you should see:
Now click 'Upload'. Or you can simply drag and drop your files into the window.
After the file is finished uploading, left click on the link you wish to copy and then right click and select 'copy'.
Open your complaint page, right click onto the area and click 'paste'.

Uploading your recorded game

Go to Tinyuploads
Click 'Browse'. This brings up the 'Select File' window.
Go to C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Age of Empires II/Saved Game folder.
Left click on the recorded game you want, and then click 'Open' at the bottom of the window. Once you click 'Open',And Then Click Upload '
After the file is finished uploading, lLeft Click on your Link and then Right click and Copy.
Open your complaint page, right click onto the area and click 'paste'.

Using the screenshot for a complaint

Go to the Voobly Complaints section and choose the game you would like to file a complaint for.
