Not So Fast

Not fast vills, but semi-fast.
Not too slow, not too fast.ย Kind of like half-fast. -Louis Armstrong
  • This mod increases villager speed for all 10 slow civilizations (Non-Assyrian/Yamato), optimally adjusted to be equal or closer to Assy and Yama villager speed as follows:
    CivSpeeds11A.png
  • Assy and Yama speed is unchanged. It's +40% as in the original game (AOE documentation says +30%, but actually it's +40% speed). So in this mod Assyrian and Yamato can be played all the same as it's been played for ages in e.g. Usual 1.0 or Rev 1.5 setting.
  • These changes should allow all 12 civilizations to be used in usual / RM inland No Reveal and many other games, and for fairer, more balanced games, with as little changes to the game, as possible (just one parameter is slightly changed - villager speed of civilizations which are used less often).
  • It also includes Easy Exploration with Allies, EE(A), i.e. instant Writing (Shared Exploration) is available starting from the Stone Age in Town Center and in House. To research Writing, it is enough to research it in TC or in House (and it is also OK to click it on both of them).
  • Writing is not counted into the list of all research achieved that is seen in the Achievements screen, and therefore Writing doesn't distort the score. Score can be very useful for tracking achievements of your opponent(s) in Stone and Early Tool ages, as mentioned on p. 12-13 in the classic Crappy Bronzing Revisited by Celestial Dawn [You must login to view link] and on the corresponding [You must login to view link].
The idea of NSF mod is to make all civs popular/choosable as simple as possible, and it is all about doing it by optimizing this single parameter: villager speed of the 10 usually underused slow civilizations (Babylonian, Choson, Egyptian, Greek, Hittite, Minoan, Persian, Phoenician, Shang, Sumerian). Please let me (me) know if you have any ideas/suggestions, especially for optimizing this single parameter, i.e. what more optimal values could be used for it (e.g. +xx% for some civilizations/civilization groups, see the bold lines in the table).

:) Thanks for advice, ideas, design and help with testing to:
DemonMachine, Halk, kyashan74, superpippo36, defeat3, Last_to_Fall, [TBE]Vulcao/KAMUS/Profeta, _MaDu_, _10k_Chupaca, BaronII, AchilleMax, Bunchman2, Super__Panda, blackoutz, HGHAIM, Godinho, letsrock_Horda, _Lethal_BAC, JeremyLucas, __Bad_DragoN__, blackwoltz, Bubbbly, Domang, life4speed, HoBBao, Shakh, Master20, _10k_Croc, MasterKush001, BrAnCo, RoR___kim, Godinho, and many others.

Tip: If you guys want to learn the techtree of all 12 civilizations faster, match what units, technologies or civilizations you want to have in your game, or if you just want to have the techtree info at your hand, then this small classic utility could be useful for you: download Michael's Civ Chooser (11 KB) from [You must login to view link] (or, direct link [You must login to view link]), unzip it, and just run civ.exe (it's a small standalone/portable application, so there is no need for any installation; if you get a MSVBVM50.DLL error on Windows 10, then download and install [You must login to view link] as well).

Version history:

v1.0:
In this initial version (v1.0) villager speed was adjusted as follows:
CivSpeeds10.png
Note that original AOE documentation says Assyrian and Yamato villagers have +30% speed, but actually it's +40% speed (see Empires.dat with Advanced Genie Editor 3).
Easy Exploration with Allies, EE(A), i.e. instant Writing (Shared Exploration) is available starting from the Stone Age in Town Center.
Writing research is counted into the list of all research in the Achievements screen (as in EEA, in IVS, and in original).

v1.1:
Hittite, Sumerian: from +20% โ†’ down to +10%
Other civs: from +30% โ†’ up to +40%
Should be a bit more balanced; and trying to keep it simple.

v1.2 (current version):
- Easy Exploration with Allies, EE(A), i.e. instant Writing (Shared Exploration) added also to the House building as well. It is now available starting from the Stone Age in both buildings: in Town Center and in House. To research Writing, it is enough to research it in TC or in House (and it is also OK to click it on both of them).
- Writing research stopped from being counted into the list of all research achieved that is seen in the Achievements screen, and therefore Writing doesn't distort the score anymore. Score can now be again very useful for tracking achievements of your opponent(s) in Stone and Early Tool ages, as mentioned on p. 12-13 in the classic Crappy Bronzing Revisited by Celestial Dawn [You must login to view link] and on the corresponding [You must login to view link].
